It was about 4 P.M. on March 27, when Art Nanni brought the warrant to Judge Crespo’s courtroom for his signature. One hour later, the lawman was in front of the Barry house along with Bill Gilliland and John King. Crime scene detectives were there, too, but the house was locked and no one answered their knock.

Nanni phoned James McGuirk, the attorney who was with Wendt at the homicide bureau in the wee hours of Monday morning. “I advised him that we were at the house and asked for someone from Holy Cross to meet us there with a key,” the detective recalled. An hour and a half later, another lawyer showed up. He brought a key. After he read the warrant, the lawmen entered the house.

Detectives quickly found three steak knives in the kitchen sink that matched the knife Kofel used to stab Sister Michelle. They photographed the knives, bagged them, and took them into custody. In a bedroom they learned was Petro Terenta’s, the lawmen found an un-monklike pink-and-white Valentine’s Day card. It was addressed to “Blue Eyes.” The card read:
