Anticipation and Foresight
Being realistic, understanding, and well read about student behavior is necessary for proper engagement, relationship building, and teaching. We are not always able to anticipate what will happen in a given situation; therefore, experience must be the teacher. Educators new to the field of education will do themselves a great service by talking to more experienced members of the staff, and asking them how they handle certain behaviors and situations. No teacher can afford to be an island. Anticipating what a student will do to intentionally or unintentionally derail the lesson prepares teachers so they can adjust the lesson to avoid the inevitable disruptions.
Remember This
Showing offense at the disruption gives the student power, knowledge of the teacherâs weaknesses, and a stick with which to beat the teacher.
