It’s just morning exercise, not iPhone worship.

USING A U.S. MOBILE PHONE

Technically any GSM phone will work in China as long as it’s set up for international access through your home carrier. Many mobile phone companies have reciprocal agreements, so even if you are “roaming” in China and make a few calls on your GSM phone, you won’t be billed directly by the Chinese company. The calls will show up on your home-country carrier account, and you’ll be charged an arm and a leg. To avoid the roaming charges, you can swap the SIM for a Chinese one when you arrive, but only if your phone is unlocked. Be sure to verify if it is unlocked or not before you go.

If you don’t already have a GSM phone or if you don’t want to mess with swapping the SIM, just plan on getting a new phone in China. Even for visits as short as a few weeks, buying a cheap China-based phone will come in quite handy.
