Upbeat percussive music as the audience enter the space. Warm lighting. SAMAR writes and then gathers oranges…

The audience enter as SAMAR sits comfortably on her rug, on her pillow, with body facing downstage, writing rapidly in her leather-bound book. It is the start of the day. She writes her thoughts.

After a few minutes (still as the audience are entering) SAMAR places her pencil inside her book and her book back under her pillow. She gets up with a small spring in her step.

SAMAR goes downstage left and picks one orange from the circle, closest to the mound of rocks. Standing, she gently squeezes the orange. She smiles.

She holds out her long shirt (skirt or dress) and places the orange inside the cloth, like a bag. She continues to gather one orange from each space between the rocks, travelling from the mound of rocks, (leaving one remaining orange centrally between each rock). She moves dynamically and economically, with one foot inside the circle and one foot outside. When she arrives at the basket, SAMAR topples the oranges from her skirt into the basket. She then continues around the circle, gathering one orange from between each stone and leaving one behind, until she reaches the mound of rocks again. She crosses diagonally back to the basket and topples the remaining oranges into the basket.

A circle of alternate oranges and rocks is left behind.

SAMAR lifts the basket full of oranges and returns to the rug. She takes the pencil and book from under her pillow. She looks at the oranges writes notes about what she will do with them.
