Chapter Ten

Mike

“Are you sure?” I asked Jonah for the fiftieth time today. “Like, positively absolutely sure?”

Jonah snorted a laugh and shoved my shoulder. “I’m sure.”

“Because I won’t go if you don’t want me to.” We’d had this discussion probably a thousand times over the past week. Each time, Jonah ensured me that he didn’t care, and that it was stupid for me to stress over it. But now that my “date” with Meg was in just a couple of hours, I couldn’t help but stress. I loved Jonah with everything in me, and I didn’t want to do anything that could potentially upset him. Plus, I just didn’t want to go.

“I know you’re looking for a reason to skip it,” Jonah told me with a raised eyebrow. The man could read me like a damn book. “But I really think you should go. Sam’s been your friend and partner for fifteen years; I think you owe him one little favor, don’t you?”

“No,” I lied, and Jonah laughed again.

“Don’t lie to me, Mikey, or I’ll spank your ass until you can’t sit down.”

“You promise?” I asked in a husky voice.

Jonah sighed and tipped his face up to the roof of the cruiser. “What am I going to do with you?”

“Whatever you want, Officer,” I replied in my sultriest voice. I was trying my best to play dirty. Maybe if I got Jonah worked up enough, he’d tell me to skip the evening with Meg and let him play with me instead.

“It’s not going to work.” Jonah tried to give me a stern look, but his twitching lips gave him away. “And do you really think it’s a good idea to tease me when I’m the one in charge of your dick? What if I decide that as a punishment, you won’t get to come for a whole week?”

Damn. “I didn’t think of that,” I confessed, and Jonah snickered again. He laughed a lot when we were together; hell, we both did. We got along famously and had so much fun together no matter what we did. Even when we were on patrol like this. Of course, if an issue needed our attention, we both gave it our all and sunk into cop mode effortlessly. Jonah was an awesome police officer and even if he and I weren’t a couple, I’d want him as a partner. He was smart, efficient, and confident. Whoever he got paired with whenever Sam got back would be very lucky.

I thought about our time as police partners coming to an end a lot. I was happy Sam would be coming back, of course; he was a wonderful cop as well and my best friend (except for Jo, that is). But I loved spending the days on the job with Jonah by my side and then spending the nights in his arms. We were inseparable, always spending the evenings at the gym or one of our homes watching movies, eating and loving.

The past week had been especially nice on the job.
