Almost two weeks went by before Lucan saw Court again, but Court did text to check in about drop. Lucan definitely didn’t experience any this time, though he wondered about Court. For a few days after they saw each other, Court’s texts were short and to the point—no flirting. But once they decided on the party they would go to together—the next TNG party—Court got back to his usual self, sending Lucan links and pictures pertaining to the things he wanted to do.

Lucan tried to influence him to keep it simple. He didn’t think it was a great idea for Court to play publicly yet, but Court didn’t seem to be hearing him whenever Lucan expressed that.

We don’t have to use any toys. I can just spank you. Or you can blow me.

Lucan got that reply during one of his fifteen-minute breaks at work, and it took thirteen of the fifteen to compose himself before he went back to his customers.

I’m not going to blow you in front of a bunch of people, Court. I’ve barely blown you in private

We’ll take care of that.

By the time the night of the party rolled around, Lucan was jonesing for his submissive hit, and he was a little closer to letting Court do whatever he wanted to him—spanking, demanding a blow job, whatever. He had long grown to recognize the agitation, frayed emotions, and desperate thoughts as his brain’s way of telling him it was time to find a safe person to let go with.

For so long, Lucan’s safe person had been Dom—though he’d never fully let go with him. When Roland let Lucan know that Dom wasn’t planning to attend the night’s party, Lucan found himself pounding on Dom’s closed bedroom door.

When Dom answered, he appeared as his usual calm self, though he raised his eyebrows at Lucan. “Wow. You look great.”

Lucan ignored the compliment. “Hey, is this because of me?”

“What? Me not going to the party?”

“Yeah.”

Dom shrugged. “A little.”

The admission gave Lucan nothing to work with. “I said I was sorry, Dom.”

“And I said ‘a little.’ It’s not all about you.” Dom leaned against the doorjamb and crossed his arms. “You finding someone gave me room to think about some things is all.”

Lucan didn’t bring up how shitty it was that Dom hadn’t shared any of this with him earlier. He’d just clammed up, and then he’d changed their relationship status on FetNet without consulting Lucan at all. “What kinds of things?”

“Remember when we first met? I told you I was planning on leaving the lifestyle.”

Lucan’s already heightened nerves buzzed with panic. “You can’t leave.”

“Relax, I didn’t say I was leaving. I’m just thinking things over. Reassessing.”

Lucan hugged himself. “What’s that mean?”

Dom sighed through his nose. “I need to figure out what I want. Do I want another arrangement like you and I had? Do I want a submissive? Do I want to find a nice vanilla someone to settle down with? I’m twenty-nine. It’s time to grow up and figure this shit out.
