You should live your life as if you are ready to say good-bye to it
at any moment, as if the time left you is some pleasant surprise.
Marcus Aurelius
Dost thou love life?
Then do not squander time,
for that is the stuff of which life is made.
Benjamin Franklin

SEIZE THE MOMENT
You may delay, but time will not.
Benjamin Franklin
ach of us has a unique contribution to make to the world, to life. Never before has a person been born with precisely your characteristics, with your blend of experiences, values, and talents. Never before has anyone had your distinct vision of a better world. These differences, the things that make each person unique, are also what make each indispensable and irreplaceable. Only you can fulfill your destiny and make your vision a reality.
It is impossible to tell a person what path he should follow, and those who would do so, who would try to influence and control the lives of their children or others beyond sympathetic encouragement and loving support, are doing them a disservice. Only you, in stillness and humility, can listen to the dictates of the still small voice that guides you, perhaps not all at once, but slowly, tenderly, to your most satisfying path. Only you can sense what direction your life must take in order to fulfill your highest destiny, and only you can find the will and discipline to follow this path with all your strength and all your heart.
It fills one with courage to think that we are almost always free to start again. Regardless of what wrong turn we might have taken, we can, from this moment, resolve to live the life we have glimpsed in moments of blessed inspiration, developing our special talents, enjoying the wonders of existence, making our life a gift to the world. Regardless of the mistakes we have made, the people we have hurt, the opportunities we have squandered, the time we have wasted, we can, from this moment, decide to make the most of our remaining days and years. âFrom the lowest depth there is a path to the loftiest height,â wrote Carlyle.
But to follow this path requires that we focus on what is important, on what takes us closer to our goals, on what enables us to live our lives most fully, and to refrain, as far as possible, from spending time on what is not important. Our days have become terribly busy and complicated. We live in a hurried age, full of restlessness, noise, and activity. Rushing this way and that, taking care of the many demands and urgencies that press upon us, we exhaust our energies and are dismayed to see that little of worth actually gets accomplished. âParalyzed by a thousand and one considerations, we never get to the point of allowing free play to whatever greatness may be burgeoning within us,â said Goethe.
A great deal of what we do can be replaced, if we choose, by activities that exercise our greater talents and abilities, that take us closer to our dreams.
