Marking up attachments

Some attachments require a response from you. Maybe it’s the contract to write a book such as this or a lease on an apartment you're renting.

Apple lets you annotate and fill in forms right from Mail. You can add substitute text, add shapes, and zoom in and circle portions of an image. You can even sign your name via the trackpad on your Mac, and insert said signature into an attached document or a PDF you are returning marked up to the sender.

Start by replying to a message, and then hover your cursor over the given attachment in the compose window. Click the Add Attachment button if the attachment isn’t already embedded in your reply message. Click the caret that appears in a pop up menu and select Markup to summon the toolbar shown in Figure 10-9. From that toolbar, click the appropriate icon to sketch, draw shapes, add text, and so on. Click Done when you’re satisfied and send the message on its merry way.
