8. EVALUATION OF ACTIONS AND INACTIONS IN LIFE
Katherine explained, âI reviewed my life like a movie except that I could pause it and zoom into different important times during my life. I could examine these times from multiple perspectives, such as the people they affected.â In her review, she learned that âit wasnât so much a decision of doing the âwrongâ thing in situations, or making unwise choices, but that the times of greatest challenge for me were times in which I could have acted but chose inaction.â This was an important point. Others have commented that they too had analyzed what they had doneâtheir âactionsââand also what they had failed to doâtheir âinactions.â For Katherine, âit was concluded, that when I returned to Earth, I must choose action and use my experiences and feelings to guide these actions.â
Heather, a British mother, recounted a similar experience after undergoing a life-threatening surgery. She said, âI suddenly found myself standing beside myself looking at a cord which connected me to my body and thinking how thin and wispy it was. Someone was beside me. I was made to feel secure and encouraged to trust my companion, who suggested that the cord was insignificant and that I should not concern myself with its fragility. I was guided towards the light. This was a sort of void, in which I found myself with the ability to fly, or should I say I had no weightâa very strange experience. Throughout the journey I kept looking back to ensure my companion was with me but somehow towards the end of the journey I found myself just content to move on and reach the end.
âReaching the light [described as a personified luminous entity], I was met by other beings of light [other luminous entities] and very gently encouraged to move on towards a life review. In this experience my actions were not judged by others, I judged myself. My presence could see into my mind and there was no way I could hide any thoughts. Gently, I was encouraged to understand how my mistakes hurt others by experiencing what others had felt as a result of my actions. I was confused, as it all seemed so strange. The word âdeathâ was never mentioned, yet somehow, I came to understand that I was in that place where the newly dead move on to.â
She told me that during the process of judgment, she felt uncomfortable and remorseful about the opportunities she had failed to make use of in her life. She described these as situations where she could have had a positive effect on others but did not follow through. She also told me that she now hated to do any harm to others, as she had felt the pain she had caused others. She now felt that the most important thing in life was to take the opportunities to be of assistance to others, even if these were sometimes difficult options. This highlights the positive transformation that many
