Chapter 28

Free woke early, opening his eyes, letting them adjust to the gray-blue of early dawn filtering through the window across the room. Yawning quietly and turning his head, he was careful not to wake Jodi who lay sleeping beside him. He watched her as she slept for long minutes, her dark curls tousled from sleep and from his fingers, her dark lashes resting against her cheekbones.

He contemplated waking her, aching to slide between her thighs as he’d done several hours before when they’d awoken together in the middle of the night, reaching for each other instinctively. She sighed in her sleep, her lips parting slightly, and he smiled. He’d let her sleep.

Sliding out from beneath the sheet, he padded quietly to the bathroom after picking his discarded boxer briefs, suit pants, and the button-down shirt. Dressing quickly, he slipped out of the bathroom and through the bedroom, grabbing his boots as he went.

He stopped in the kitchen, rifling through cupboards and drawers until he found the fixings to start a pot of coffee to brew. He located a pen and scrawled a quick note on a napkin, leaving it by the coffee maker before letting himself out the front door just as the sun started to make its ascent above the horizon.

Driving the short way to Shane’s, he let himself in the empty house. The newlyweds had stayed in a hotel for the night, before traveling to their destination for their long-awaited honeymoon. Taking off the suit pants and shirt, he folded both pieces over the back of a chair that sat in the corner of the bedroom. Grabbing a fresh pair of underwear, jeans, and a clean shirt from his suitcase, he headed into the bathroom to take a short shower.

Dressing and heading out to the barn out the backdoor, he ducked into the chicken coop, fetching freshly laid eggs from the laying hens, then refilled the water bucket and scratch feeder, before heading to the goat pen. It was easy, mindless work, leaving his mind free to wander to the night he’d just spent with Jodi.

They’d fallen asleep together late, languid and sated, Jodi draped loosely over his chest. He’d woken in the middle of the night to her wrapping her arm around his waist from behind him, and his cock had hardened almost instantly at her touch, ready for her again. Rolling over to face her, she’d pulled him to her in the darkened room, rolling to her back and letting him settle between her thighs easily. He’d protested for the briefest moment, worried she would be tender and sore, but she shushed him with her lips and reached for him, guiding him to enter her. It was all the invitation he’d needed, sliding into her without another moment’s hesitation. It had been quick and hard, different than the first time. He’d collapsed after coming hard, panting into her shoulder before raising himself over her, brushing her sweat-dampened hair away from her face.
