Chapter SIXTEEN

Alvin and Jason complete the move from Alvin’s apartment. The furniture is roughed in with boxes in every room.

Alvin looks around at his accomplishment and visions of what his house will be with Katrina in mind. Jason is in the kitchen, happy for him. He opens two beers and hands one too Alvin. “I need to sit down.” He feels like a tired mover on the way to the couch. “I don’t like moving at all. Even this one, but it’s good to help a brother out.”

“There’s a lot to be done.” Alvin sips his beer.

“You know we’re all supportive, excited and anxious, to see the outcome. But what about the final piece?” Jason asks with a stern look.

“The final piece?” Alvin asks. “I don’t get it.”

“A woman, as in the better half!” He gives him the look again.

Alvin laughs inside, “When I get it done, it’s gonna be nice and cozy.”

“You’re on a roll and odds say Miss Right is near,” he says in a tone to instill confidence.

“I’ve thought about my situation and from now on I will keep it discreet.”

“What’s next for the renovation?”

“Like I said, the kitchen.”

“You’re doing it, Brother.”

A quiet Monday morning in the garage, Alvin waits for the contractor when he gets a call from Katrina.

“Good morning, sexy, and how’s your day going?” Alvin answers.

“Good after a well-rested weekend.” She closes the door to her office. “Do you work tonight?”

“No, the restaurant is open for lunch and closed on Monday nights. Why, what’s up?”

“I missed you and I know I was on your subconscious.”

“Sub no more, it’s skyscraper now, Sexy. Straight to the sky!” She has a good laugh. “I never thought your friend’s interference would be a good Omen. I would tell them, but I wouldn’t want to spook them with visions of apostate objects that fly to and fro around their heads on a dark and spooky night. They are your friends.”

She laughs, knowing she has her Alvin back. “Yes, they are.”

“Call me when you’re home and rested and you will hear me knock.”

“Are you gonna fix something? I fixed breakfast.”

“Lady Love, you fixed more than breakfast. I’ll order takeout and have it delivered. The contractor is about to walk in. Love you, bye.” Alvin calls out when George walks through the door, “George you’re on time.”

“My wife says you’re on time,” as they shake hands.

“Your wife?” Alvin asks.

“Yeah, she’s the one who takes the checks to the bank. But don’t worry because what you’ve got here, you’ll have a woman take something from you too and soon.”

“You need a cup of coffee.”

“Yeah, you’re right.”

Alvin brings coffee, cream, sugar, cup, and saucer with a spoon. “That should do the trick.”

“Oh it will. I get coffee service and I work for you? Most clients want me to bring coffee with song and dance.”

Alvin lets George sip his coffee then says, “George, I know you’re bonded, and you’ve been in some upscale houses.” He gives him the key to the front door. “But I have to say the key I just gave you is the key to my dream.
