I stood outside the coffee shop for a long time, watching through the window as Harper sat down across from her ex. I'd had a nagging suspicion that something else was going on last night despite the blowjob and the sex. First, there was the necklace, and then there was the picture of Harper and her ex on the beach.

Both of those things rattled around my brain, searching for an answer that I didn't have. And then, Harper decided she needed to go out and meet a few friends for coffee. That wasn't like her. Saturdays were a slow waking up, leisurely breakfast, and then maybe a walk around the city. Coming so soon after the missing necklace and visiting Trip, I worried there was something else going on.

So, I'd waited had disappeared down the street, then followed her.

I knew it was crazy even as I stuck to the shadows of the tree line streets, following my girlfriend like some kind of crazy stalker. This wasn't what loving, supportive boyfriends are supposed to do. They're supposed to trust their girlfriends, give them space to live their own lives and, if they loved you, they would come back to you. Isn't that what the saying 'if you love something you have to set it free' meant?

But, I wasn't ready to set Harper free. I had a possessive, jealous monster lurking inside me and it was in control.

Harper stopped in front of the coffee shop and checked her phone. I ducked behind a tree she looked at the sign then back at the street as if trying to make a decision. I willed her to turn around, walk back down the street towards our house. I didn't even care if she found me. I just wanted her to make the right choice.

And that's when Trip showed up. He snuck up behind her, his tall handsome form bending over her shoulder so his lips were whispering in her ear. I watched Harper jump, then turn and talk to Trip. I could tell she was angry, and I thought that might be it. But, as Trip continued to talk to her, I watched my girlfriend's body relax, even saw a smile on her face. I knew what Harper was going to do even before she walked into the shop.

So, here I was, watching my girlfriend as she argued with her ex over a cup of coffee. Even through the window I could tell that she was angry, but the fire in her cheeks only made her look more beautiful. Trip was getting to her.

I wanted to go in there, to confront her and her ex, but a small, masochistic part of me needed to see if Harper would make that choice on her own.

Trip stood up, making my heart leap with hope. He walked off towards the back of the coffee shop and I saw Harper's eyes follow him. This was it, this was her moment to leave and never look back.

My girlfriend stood up and, to my dismay, followed her ex to the back of the shop.
