CHAPTER SIXTEEN

“What?” Graeson breathed huskily, his sex-soaked brain trying to focus on Kaine’s voice. “Huh? Justin?” Confusion warred with ecstasy as he writhed beneath Kaine’s seductive touches, making him slow to comprehend the meaning in Kaine’s seemingly innocent remark. The blood racing hotly in Graeson’s veins wanted to remain in the southerly region as Kaine continued his sensual exploration from Grae’s chest towards his aching penis. Finally, Kaine’s words seeped through. What the fuck did he just say? That he hoped Justin hadn’t been too bothered by the love bites on Grae’s chest?

Fuck! Had Kaine assumed that he and Justin were an item? That he’d have been with Justin after sharing himself with Kaine so intimately these last weeks? On so much more than a physical level, or so Graeson had thought. Son of bitch! Fucking asshole! The man hadn’t changed at all.

The full force of Kaine’s presumption hit Graeson like a splash of ice-cold water. Kaine always clammed up whenever the subject of Justin arose. Graeson had cancelled what had become his and Kaine’s daily “lunch” the previous day to meet Justin and go over some changes to the retreat model. He’d wanted to come down for a face-to-face with Graeson so that he could see the mock up. The younger man’s excitement had been contagious. The meeting ran longer than Graeson had anticipated and he’d insisted that Justin stay overnight. He’d only had time for a quick call that evening to let Kaine know that he wouldn’t make it for dinner either. He just assumed that Kaine understood, after all, it was for Tri-H. Now he knew better.

Kaine had thought Justin’s trip unnecessary and wondered if Justin was making a play for Graeson. He could just as easily have Skyped the meeting, for goodness sake. Why did Justin always volunteer to drive hours for a flippin’ two- or three-hour meeting? Kaine couldn’t help but feel threatened. And Justin had even spent the night under his Graeson’s roof! What the heck was that about?

Graeson’s rising disappointment veered sharply to fury, his eyes blazing. “Are you fucking kidding me? Do you honestly think I would be doing this…?” Grae was gesturing to his body wildly. “…if Justin and I were… were…?” Grae shoved Kaine away from him and adjusted himself. He stalked away, grabbing his keys and wallet from the coffee table. He bent down for the shirt that he’d tossed aside when he first walked in the door and Kaine pounced on him.

Over the last month, Graeson and Kaine had met at the cozy little cabin almost daily to swim and have “lunch” together. Lunch always ended with them skin to skin, grinding against anything that could support their combined weight. They had both been wary of cementing their fledgling relationship by making love. As if by unspoken agreement they both knew once they did, there would be no going back. They mostly just enjoyed being together in the companionable ease that was developing between them; sitting on the porch while they ate and watching the occasional tubers float by.
