Lesson to Prahlad

fter Lord Vishnu in his Narasimha avatar had saved Prahlad from the cruelty of his father, he declared Prahald as the ruler of Hiryanyakashipu’s kingdom.

Prahald was an excellent king. He was a kind and righteous ruler, and for this virtue of his, Goddess Lakshmi was always by his side. He continued to worship Lord Vishnu and his wife with utmost devotion. Prahlad was a loved ruler of all the three worlds.

In fact, he became so popular amongst the gods that Lord Indra felt jealous of him! He felt his authority as chief of the gods was in trouble. He went to his guru, Brihaspati and said anxiously, ‘How can the son of a cruel demon be given so much respect, affection, wealth and prosperity?’

Brihaspati replied, quite impatiently, ‘Prahald may be a demon’s son but he is also a virtuous man and a fair king. He is devoted to Lord Vishnu. Devi Lakshmi only resides in places where virtue and morals are given due respect. You have not maintained these, Lord Indra. That is why Devi Lakshmi favours Prahlad.’
