The New Girl

She was new in town. It wasn’t fun but neither was it bad. It wasn’t a town either, it was the city and as imposing as it may have appeared, Eva felt like she was ready for it. She had never been to the city again, never seen so many people in a day or cars or buildings. There was just so much to see in the city and so much to get used to that she felt like it would take an eternity to get to know the place well.

The other thing was the cultures and norms of the city. People were of different races and backgrounds and believed in a lot of different things. But everyone seemed to exist in great harmony and there had also emerged a new culture that only the city dwellers knew and practiced. It was a good thing for Eva, to see new things and learn new things and experience a variety of mixed cultures and beliefs. To her, it was going to be a learning experience and a place to do all the crazy things she never thought she could do.

Eva had come to the city to work. Being the brightest financial specialist her previous university could offer, a bank had drawn up an offer she couldn’t resist. She had agreed to it without even thinking twice and in two weeks time, Eva was in the city, ready for a new life away from her parents and friends. Not that she had a lot of friends, she came from a small town, but they all loved her there. Relating the city’s population to the small town she came from, it sure did look like she didn’t have a lot of friends.

The city was also going to offer her a place to hide from the problems she had left behind. Part of the reason why she had speedily taken the job was to run away from her love life. It was crazy and so distorted that at times she would just look at it and shake her head. The woman she had been having a relationship with was a crazy one. She was too demanding and had these crazy ideas that Eva never really yielded to thus creating a lot of conflict in their life. And she never seemed to understand that Eva wasn’t comfortable with everything the woman ever thought of.

So this was a chance for Eva to reclaim some semblance in her life and get her bearings right. It was also a time for her to earn some money, grow her career and become the woman she had always wanted to be. It didn’t sound that hard but Eva knew that it wasn’t going to be an easy task. She needed all her energy and destructive relationships were only going to do more harm than they were meant to. One thing her parents had urged her was to make as many connections with the right people as possible.

That made sense.
