Now we can request that service in a controller and use it in an action:

public class HomeController : Controller { IFileStorage fileStorage; public HomeController(IFileStorage fileStorage) { this.fileStorage = fileStorage; } public IActionResult ListFiles() { string directory = @"c:\"; fileStorage.ChangeDirectory(directory); var files = fileStorage.GetCurrentFiles(); var vm = new ListFilesViewModel( directory, files ); return View(vm); } }

As such, our code would result in an error: we need to instruct the DI system about how an instance of IFileStorage should be created. So we add the following code to the Startup.ConfigureServices method:

public void ConfigureServices( IServiceCollection services) { services.AddTransient<IFileStorage, FileStorageService>(); }
