Chapter 29

It had been hours since the men had come in to have them prove they were alive. They’d said little after, all lost in their own thoughts. Morgan’s head was so full of Pez and Brian, there was little room for anything else, even their stupid plan.

He knew why they’d made it. They had to try to live, do anything to get out of there and back to the men they loved. He didn’t think any of them actually thought it would work, and they’d probably get killed trying it. Better to die trying, though.

Memories of his time with Brian and Pez swam through on a current that was too strong to stop. The night he’d met Brian, and how Morgan thought he was possibly the sexiest man he’d ever seen. His smile, his touch, Morgan knew he’d wanted him forever.

Leaving him, and the hole his heart had all those months away from his beautiful Brian. The courage to go back, begging for a second chance, and being given one. That had cemented it for Morgan, how their love wasn’t in his imagination. It was real, it was wonderful.

And Pez, how they’d hated one another. They both loved Brian so much that they put up with the other, but then…he saw what Brian had seen. How smart, loving, generous Pez was. Handsome beyond reason, sexual, tender. He didn’t think he could ever love another man like he loved Brian, but there it was, blooming for Pez like it had for Brian, as encompassing, as bright and as big.

“You know,” Tony said, his voice far away and mellow. “The first time I saw Vincent, I thought he was the most beautiful man, besides Kegan, that I’d ever seen. Kegan was my life, though, and that thought made me feel like I was cheating. Then, when it came down to it, Kegan was the one who made me know it could work, the three of us.”

As he thought, they were all deep in thoughts, remembering their lovers. Sebastian chuckled at Tony, telling him, “No one I know in a poly think they can be in one. I knew Beast and me could.”

Clay asked, “You never thought that Beast might love someone more, and one day just want him and not all of you?”

“Nope.”

“Sure!”

“Seriously. Beast and me…we started out on the shakiest ground there was. I mean, putting L.A. and its earthquakes to shame. I didn’t want to be stuck with one guy, even if it was a guy I loved so much. I knew I’d miss out on something.”

Morgan couldn’t imagine feeling that way, but then he realized that was exactly how he’d felt. That was the reason he’d left. “Damn. I guess we all go through that.”

“Not me,” Clay said. “but then again, Vic and I had an open relationship. I did my wild oats thing. Mack is it for me.”

Xen got up, kneeling in front of Clay, nodding at him.

“You too, I know, Xen. Memphis saved you, didn’t he?”

“Yeah,” he whispered, tears gathering in his eyes.
