Ishavskatedralen on the right where the bridge starts rising above ground.
The must-visit places in Tromsö are the following.
Outlook point at the top of Storsteinen hill provides magnificent views over Tromsö, fjords and fells. Fjellheisen (cable car) takes visitors to the height of 421 meters/1380 feet. At the top, you can walk around or sit down at the café and enjoy the scenery. In summer, the café is a popular meeting place for local youth during weekend evenings, although the cable car ticket prices are pretty steep (www.fjellheisen.no/en ). It is possible to ascend the Storsteinen hill by foot as well. Just follow the path under the cable car.
On the mainland side of the Tromsö Bridge, Ishavskatedralen Church (Arctic Cathedral, also known as Tromsdalen Church) stands as a landmark that is visible far away. Designed by architect Jan Inge Hovig, the church opened in 1965. It is open for visitors between 3 pm and 6 pm. Homepage for the church www.ishavskatedralen.no.
The views from the bridge that connects Tromsö island to the mainland are worth another glance even if you have driven across the bridge. The bridge can be crossed by foot or by bicycle as many people do, especially in summer.
Storgata Pedestrian Street is reserved for walking and cycling, as well as other streets between Storgata and Strandtorget. In this district, the primary activities are shopping, eating, drinking and people watching.
Strandtorget is a place where various events take place, especially, in summer. Even if there are no events, there are plenty of pubs, restaurants and cafés that draw locals for a bite to eat and a drink.
Polarmuseet (Polar Museum) is a source of information on Arctic expeditions, seal hunting and Polar explorers. The museum is located in an old harbor building at Søndre Tollbodgate 11. The museumâs homepage uit.no/polarmuseet.
Harbor area is fun to explore. Boats and ships arrive and leave almost constantly, and if you are lucky you may spot the famous Hurtigruten ship on the dock as well.
Nordisk Kunstmuseum (Art Museum) near the harbor at Sjögata 1 exhibits modern art, traditional art and Sami art. Homepage www.nnkm.no.
Tromsö domkirke (Lutheran Cathedral) has been standing in the town center since 1861. It is a wooden building that endured the World War II. The church doesn't have regular opening hours, but it is possible to get in when there is something going on.
