The fight started out well enough, or so Togashi thought. With a few shadow jumps, he picked his way through Rayden’s soldiers, evening the odds while the other champion looked on, only moving to keep his eyes glued on his target. It wasn’t until the last soldier turned into an orb that Togashi realized that the seasoned general was learning about his enemy’s capabilities, even if it meant sacrificing his soldiers to gain knowledge.

“You’re fast, Togashi, I’ll give you that,” Rayden sighed as he reached back to draw the massive, black-handled sword with a golden blade. “But speed will not win you this battle.”

“Yeah, I didn’t think it would. Just wanted some room to move around, and your goons were in my way.”

The general smiled at him, but Togashi doubted that he knew why he was talking, rather than fighting. When he was busy taking down the last soldier, he’d looked over at Rayden and whispered for the moonbeam spell, which was just now arriving. The ceiling exploded as the beam struck Rayden in the skull, forcing Togashi’s hands to his eyes as light filled up the room. When his vision returned, he found himself peering into smoke, with the ceiling collapsing over their heads, and two glowing, golden eyes peering at him through the carnage.

Not even a scratch!

“My turn, child.”

Rayden moved like a blur, with the sword cutting the air before him. Togashi was barely able to use shadow jump to save himself, but the flicker of his moonblade told him that he was running low on mana.

Twice more Rayden came at him, but his dodge attribute kicked in. Each swing saw Elasha’s champion ducking out of the way, narrowly avoiding the killing strikes that moved the hair on his head. Rayden tried to lunge with the weapon, only to have Togashi jump onto it with a raised brow that made the champion growl.

“You are starting to annoy me, boy,” Rayden hissed and jerked his weapon away, forcing Togashi to jump off. “Is this fun for you? Are you playing a game, or something?”

“Something like that.”

“Well, then I suppose I should tell you that it’s game over. I’ve had quite the evening, and my new bed is calling to me. Farewell, Togashi. You’ve fought well tonight.”

“Please, I’m just getting…”

Before he could say ‘started’, the floor lit up with fire, forcing him to scurry away as the heat spread toward his exposed skin. Blisters formed as Rayden walked through the flames, leaving the mighty golden sword upon his shoulders.

“Go on, leap into the shadows, burn through what’s left of your mana,” Rayden challenged in a flat tone as he continued to walk toward his target.

The fire rose up the walls, rendering the weak building materials to ash as the champion strolled his way, patiently stalking his prey. Twice Togashi tried to shadow jump, or meld, only to find that he couldn’t manage either. The moonblade had disappeared along the way, leaving
