On the third day of the case, Paul Gallagher, opened his cross-examination with a narrative but the questioning was about to resume. He began by referring to two violent assaults carried out by Bailey on his partner, Jules Thomas, in May 1996 and in August 2001. During one of them, he had attacked her with a crutch that he had been using while his leg was in plaster. Regarding the latter incident, Mr Gallagher took the plaintiff through a list of the injuries he had inflicted on his partner:
