Chapter Eleven

“Don’t you dare harm that girl. I’ve called the police, and they’ll be here any minute.”

Kaine was taken aback when he saw the slight figure of Jessica suddenly appear from behind a large boulder. She stood with her arm outstretched, an accusing finger pointing directly at him. Her whole body trembled, and her voice shook. The beautiful creamy complexion he admired so much was now ashen, and she looked like she would collapse at any moment.

Mason turned to him, an amused smile playing on his face. He knew his best friend couldn’t resist the opportunity to make some cutting remark. “Goddamn it, Kaine. Where the fuck did she come from?”

“Must have come through the jungle. I’d have seen her if she’d taken the easy route.”

Mason smiled, and slapped him on the back. “You got some explaining to do, buddy.”

He was right. “Jessica, stay right where you are.”

She shook her head violently, her body still trembling uncontrollably. “No. No, and kill me, too.”

“Listen, baby—”

“Bastard! Devil worshipper! Murderer!” She pointed at him again before turning on her heels and immediately falling over. She then picked herself up, and without looking back, ran through the dense jungle like the devil himself was chasing her.

Mason sunk to his knees with hysterical laughter. He laughed so much his eyes watered profusely.

“You’re a great help, Mason.”

“Yeah, well, you gotta laugh. That schoolteacher artist of yours has added two and two together to make five.”

Kaine took the hunting knife and cut down the tethered girl. “There you go, honey.” He casually slapped her bare ass. “Playtime will have to wait for another day.”

Melody provocatively fluttered her eyelashes and blew him a kiss. “That’s too bad, Kaine, I was just starting to warm up.”

He slapped her bare ass again. “Naughty girl.”

Ronan Balantyne came across and joined them. “Who the hell was that crazy fucking bitch, Kaine? She’s certifiable.”

He liked Ronan. The Hollywood actor was one of the good guys, and over the years they’d shared a lot of fun times together. However, he didn’t like the way he described the woman he was falling in love with, and he let him know it. “That’s Jessica, and don’t ever let me hear you talk about her like that again.”

Ronan held up his hands in appeasement. “Okay. That’s cool, man.”

Kaine patted Ronan’s shoulder, letting him know they were still friends. “When you get to know her a little better, you’ll realize she’s one very special lady.” He pointed to Sadie and Allie. “Go untie the girls, Ronan, then take them back to your villa.” He looked around the clearing. “Sorry everyone, but the entertainment for today is over.”

As Ronan untied her, Sadie groaned with frustration and flexed her fingers. “So I’ve lost the circulation in my hands for nothing then. Say, Kaine, what does a girl have to do to have some fun around here?”

Kaine wistfully shook his head. “Sorry, honey, that’s just the way it goes. I’ve got more important things to do right now.”

Ronan placed his arms around Allie and Sadie’s shoulders, and then motioned across to the blonde-haired girl.
