Eventually, I had to take her home so she could go to bed. I peppered her with questions about her writing and her books.

“Gram has read them all. She keeps trying to get me to write mysteries, but that’s not really my genre.”

“Gram reads your dirty books?” I asked, and then I thought about it for a second. “Yeah, that tracks. I’ve seen her paperback collection of vintage romances.”

“I usually give her the rough drafts and she’ll find typos for me. She loves that. Rubs every single one in my face.”

We both laughed as I pulled into her driveway and turned off the car.

“So,” I said, turning so I could look at her. “You like me, and I like you and we’ve kissed for the second time. What do we do now?”

Alessi leaned over toward me, using my shirt to pull me closer.

“Kiss some more,” she whispered, just before her mouth met mine.

“Good plan,” I said.
