Lunchtime came all too soon for Jordan’s liking. He’d barely finished the soup in his thermos when Max started tugging him by the sleeve toward the schoolyard.

“This first scene’s of just me,” he said, taking out his sister’s phone and passing the precious device over to Jordan, “so you’ll have to film.”

Jordan often used Beverly’s phone to play games, watch videos or do searches online, but he’d never filmed anything himself.

“Hold it sideways,” said Max. “It’s better that way. And make sure my lighting is good.”

“Don’t you need a costume?” asked Jordan.

“Way ahead of you.”

Max unzipped his jacket and unbuttoned his shirt to reveal a T-shirt that said OUR HERO. He had a small red cape tied around his neck.

“Okay,” said Jordan, tapping the screen to make the phone record.

Max launched into a monologue that he’d memorized from his script, then took off running across the schoolyard.
