Liam didn’t have much time to take Charadie’s request into consideration. It was later than he’d hoped when his last homework assignment was complete. Thankfully, he was out as soon as his head hit the pillow, which saw his alarm going off right after his eyes closed. It felt that way, at least.

His body ached as he changed into some jogging clothes, but he couldn’t moan and groan without waking Sadyth, who murmured a few choice words when his alarm sounded. As quietly as possible, he slipped outside, hoping to stretch a bit before Pym showed up. He was wrong.

“Good morning,” she sang in a voice filled with far too much cheer for their surroundings. She jogged in place as she said it, pointing to her wrist as though she wore a watch. “It’s 5:32, so we’ll have to go a bit hard to make up for the lost time.”

Can I just go hard on you in those bushes over there and go back to sleep?

“Sure, whatever.”

It was too early for his slumbering cock, so he ignored whatever she was wearing and followed her. They jogged on the grass instead of the sidewalk, which seemed a bit strange given the dampness of the terrain. They barely reached the first lake when he decided he already regretted his decision. In fact, he was drumming up excuses to quit before the chill of the morning found his lungs.

Why did I agree to this again? He thought to himself as he peered through the low-hanging fog to see the island. It was familiar territory, which, oddly enough, brought him back to his strange encounter with Charadie last night. He was searching the school grounds for Jamie Atwater, only to wind up finding another missing person. It was hard to call Charadie ‘missing’ when she didn’t seem too worried about getting back home. It was the demonic energy surging through her at the time that was to blame, but, deep down, he suspected that Charadie felt right at home with it.

Today shouldn’t be a complete waste though. Sooner or later, Spork would send word that the ITF packed up and headed home. As soon as that happened, he could send for Sivelle, break out the dagger card, and help her finish the quest. He had no reason behind it, but he swore that completing the task would lead to something important. If nothing else, it’d help Sivelle and Shyora, which was good enough of a reason as any. Hopefully, Spork would stick to his word and let them use the ITF device to block the signal from Sivelle’s attrex.

Thinking about the detective reminded him of why he agreed to run with Pym in the first place. Sure, he didn’t reject the idea of getting into better shape, but that wasn’t the real purpose. He needed to see what she knew about the hudrek who always dangled his freedom over his head.

“So, how long have you known Detective Spork?”

“Figured that out, did you?” she laughed with no sign that she was struggling to breathe.
