Chapter Nineteen
Iâm watching the door leading to Marcusâs room, or more accurately, his cell. Part of me itches at having Brendan here in my space. Iâm not sure what to think of him. When he contacted me about his brother, I was happy to assist. I have my own reasons to be here and an abuser crosses every line of mine. Now though...I have questions. Not just for him but for Marcus as well.
âKeegan, Brendan has a task for you.â
I do a double-take when I look over at Davin. Heâs pale and walking uncomfortably, his hair is a mess, and while Iâd say he looked well fucked in any other situation, it looks much different here. I immediately stand and go to help him, but the moment I reach for him, he flinches and stumbles back.
âDavin, are you alright?â I canât help but think something has happened to him. Heâs a sweet kid, not like the soldier Iâd expect, certainly not with what Iâm slowly learning about Brendan.
âIâm okay,â Davin bristles even as he wonât meet my eyes. âThe boss has a job for you.â
I gesture for him to continue, and with quick words, he tells me about this Philip. By the time heâs done, Iâm grinding my teeth. This is why I exist, to take out the trash that the cops donât do shit about. I hesitate briefly as Iâll need another person with me, but Davin isnât up to it. Not with the way heâs moving right now.
âAlright, Iâll need to take someone with me,â I hesitate briefly before realizing I have an opportunity here. âIâll take Marcus.â
Davinâs eyes go wide. He shakes his head frantically at me. âNo. I donât think the boss would be okay with it. Marcus is supposed to stay here.â
âHe wonât get away from me, especially with what we have on him. Heâll be useful, especially when I explain what happened. It sounds like there is quite a bond between those Boys.â I donât mention that I need to know how deep that bond goes, and whether Iâll need to kill all of the Boys, or if theyâre salvageable. Without putting my cards on the table, I donât mention I need more information on Brendan as well. It may be time to clear out the whole town.
Davin looks like heâs going to run back to Brendan, but the moment he tries to move away, he cringes with pain, clenching his teeth in a desperate attempt to keep a whine in, but I notice. I notice everything, and while I may not do anything about it immediately, I file it away in my mind. Iâll find out his secrets later and deal with them as needed.
I donât bother knocking on the door but stroll in. Iâm not overly surprised to see Marcus in the middle of doing push-ups. From my research, this level of inactivity and captivity must be killing him. I have a file on each of the Boys. Marcus interested me the most, knowing he was in charge of the soldiers.
