To find the contact you want to call, you can scroll the contacts list by touching it and dragging your finger up and down, or you can use the search box at the top of the screen. Tap somebody’s name and you will see full contact details for them. This provides you with three particularly useful options:

• Add to favourites: Since not everyone in your address book will have FaceTime, you can save yourself a lot of time by adding those who do have it to your Favourites list. You can then see a list of only these people by tapping Favourites at the bottom of the screen.

• Edit: To make a FaceTime call to your friend, you will need to contact them using the email address or phone number they have registered with Apple for use in FaceTime. That might not be the same address they use for correspondence, so, if necessary, you’ll need to tap the Edit button in the top right and add their FaceTime email address or phone number to their contact details.

• Start a FaceTime call: There’s no big button to press! To start a FaceTime call, just tap the email address your friend uses for FaceTime, or their iPhone phone number.

When you tap an email address or phone number, FaceTime will attempt to call your friend and you’ll hear a simulated phone ringing sound. Your friend will see a message on screen and hear an alert sound if they have alerts enabled. When your friend answers, you’ll see their face on the screen.
