This is not at all surprising, since this situation pertained everywhere. As Carl Zimmer (Zimmer, 2004) documented, and as already alluded to above, it was only in early modern times that the linkage between the anatomical organ and the thought faculty was made. And yet we are today merrily using our present anatomical concepts to analyse ancient texts and make important deductions from them. It is only sometimes that the discrepancies thus caused become evident at first glance, as shown in this extract from an Āyuredic website:

Aggravated vata getting obstructed in its downward movement, starts moving upwards, enters into the channels connected to the hrdaya (heart) or brain and produces pain in the head and temples, constricts the body and bends it like a bow […]
