The digital twin continues to get smarter as more and more data is added and can be used at every stage, including design, build, commissioning, operations, and maintenance. It benefits all the building stakeholders, from owners, operators, and managers to occupants and tenant employees, with real-time data, workflows, and behaviors to optimize performance.
Digital twins in a well-planned smart building can be used to deliver the following:
Building insights: Digital twins provide better insights to support strategic decisions on how to operate a building. Detailed information can be analyzed and simulated for any building system.
Energy management: Energy efficiency and sustainability goals can be achieved and improved by finding patterns in the supply and use-consumption data. HVAC maintenance and operations data is used to drive energy demand and management. Real-time space utilization data can activate responses to energy/water transmission, generation, storage, maintenance, and management.
Predictive maintenance: Strategically placed IoT sensors and devices coupled with machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms predict patterns to drive maintenance operations, to deliver optimal repairs and service. Parts can be ordered well in advance and technicians can be scheduled to perform the work.
Return to office: Safety and wellness programs, contact tracing, space reservations, and workplace experiences can be modeled and adjusted accordingly.
Workplace health: Environmental measurement and management scenario planning, such as indoor air quality monitoring and management.
Space utilization: Occupancy sensors combined with artificial intelligence can determine how space is being used and spot space that is underutilized. Access control and temperature management can be integrated to derive clever solutions.
Navigation: Easy-to-use digital navigation systems can guide visitors to the correct space.
Automation: Repetitive tasks can be learned and automated.
