So somehow, it had happened. When the time came, Iâm sure the envious eyes peering at her from the shadows found much hatred for me. Their hearts were unquestionably overcome with jealousy when they saw her crossing the street, and daintily ringing the doorbell of my modest home. I rushed to let her inside, hoping I looked respectable enough to entertain such an effortlessly glamorous guest. When I opened the door, the fading daylight perfectly complimented her caramel complexion. Her skin was flawless, and I ached to touch it but dared not, for fear of causing offense.
She came inside, and waited patiently as I prepared her drink and tried my utmost to fill any silence with small talk. Conversation to me seemed difficult, my mountainous challenge was to remain interesting. She on the other hand, made it look uncomplicated. Her melodic voice seemed to create harmonies all on its own, and the notes she hit struck a chord with me. Every word carried a hypnotic quality, leaving me unable to focus. When enough of my senses had finally returned, I handed her that coffee I was so damn nervous about.
We continued to speak until darkness fell, but now I have no recollection of the topic of conversation. I was too infatuated with the way her silky locks of ashen hair fell, and the emerald-like shimmer of her bright green eyes, to take note of any meaningless words. Cool air drifted lazily through the lounge as the minutes ticked by. I treasured every second, fearing that this would be the only time I would ever have her to myself. I knew she was on the mind of every other man, married or otherwise. I was no competition.
It was then that events took a sudden turn. She told me she had noticed how I looked at her, that she knew what was going on in my head and she felt it too. I knew it; I knew it was love at first sight from the instant she fell into view. I was enthralled, my heart raced at the thought that she felt the same. This was a connection like no other, the very essence of a romance tale, but manifested in reality. My anxious thoughts dissipated fully, to be replaced wholly by joy. I took her in my arms, holding her close on the couch, feeling the warmth of her body against mine.
She stood, taking my hand and bringing me up along with her.
âThereâs no time to waste.â She told me with that stunning smile. She pulled me close, and closed her perfect eyes. Her kiss was mesmerising, I became lost in its liquid flow as her tongue met mine. She tasted as sweet as summer fruits, and her scent complimented her flavour. I wished for it to be endless as her hands found my back, sealing me in her embrace. Sadly, it was over all too soon. She relaxed and retreated, taking a step away from me.
She told me she had to go.
