The rest of the night was uneventful in the apartment. I slept well for one of the first times in the apartment, dreaming of walking around Ibeji Village with a red cardinal on my shoulder. Sharing the bed with Loreen felt like the sleepovers I used to have with Keisha, minus the possession. I wasn’t even bothered by Teddy’s presence in the room. I knew having Loreen there helped with that. And also knowing that he would help me when I needed it made it more comfortable.

In the morning, each of us had our mission to complete. “I’m going to try to talk to some people to find more information.” Teddy stood by the front door and put his backpack over his shoulder. I was amazed he was able to deflate, fold, and fit the air mattress into the confines of the backpack. Adu waited off leash for his command.

“I’ll do some more research online and see if I can find anything,” Loreen said, gathering her things. She gave me a one-sided hug. “Call us if you need anything.”

I hugged her back and opened the front door for them. “Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. I’ll talk to you after I visit my mom,” I said before closing the door behind them.
