Allie

That evening, I dropped by Sean’s place.

And the next.

And the next.

Despite his promise, we did not discuss any conditions, and I did not get my underwear back.

It had to be at the bottom of his laundry basket by then, along with a couple more pairs he acquired over the course of a month.

Every day, he would stop by the bakery during his off-duty hours, bring me coffee, and run my errands. The same old routine we had kept up over the past few years.

Every night, I would lock up, grab my coat and purse, and head straight to his house.

I’d park around the back, just in case someone drove by late at night and spotted my car there, and then knock on his door as quietly as possible.

“What’s the password?” he would ask me.

We had never set one, so I’d just say something witty like “hideous blue tablecloth” or “laundry service”.

If I was feeling impatient, I’d snap, “Open up, I’m freezing my butt off!”

That would usually do it.

Today was one of those days when I was freezing my butt off, so he let me in immediately.

We started to make out before we even made it past the living room couch, but I suddenly pulled back and let out a sneeze.

“Wow, you weren’t kidding this time.”

Sean put his hands on my shoulders and dropped a kiss on my cold nose.

“Okay, change of plans.”

Instead of stripping me down to my last pair of clean underwear, he cranked up the heat, carried a thick, fluffy blanket over from his closet, and settled down on the couch with me between his legs.

I rested my back against his chest and turned my head to look at him.

“This is cozy. I had no idea you could do cozy.”

He smirked a little and lured me deeper into his arms with a slow kiss.

“Don’t let my laundry room past fool you. I’m the master of cozy. So… What do you want to watch?”

He handed over the remote, surrendering all the power to me.

I was aware of his taste in movies and TV, so I took it.

I was no fool.

This was Sean. If I pretended to be polite long enough, he’d make a choice and we’d end up watching Transformers or old reruns of Little House on the Prairie.

There was no in-between with him.

Sometimes, he’d even watch them back to back.

I flipped through the channels for a bit and eventually settled on an episode of Law & Order.

“Not Law & Order…” He groaned.

He had nothing against Law & Order personally. He just couldn’t watch cop shows or crime movies without ruining them with real-life police commentary.

The man couldn’t suspend his disbelief for even a second, and I kind of loved him for it.

Liked him.

Liked him for it.

“Don’t be a crybaby,” I told him. “I’m the one who’s sick.”

“You sneezed once,” he corrected me. “I wouldn’t pick a tombstone yet.”

“And yet you busted out the big guns.” I gestured to the blanket.

It used to be hard for us to talk
