Hunter did a voters check and found a Wendy and Dylan Wolfe living at 44 Sycamore Crescent, Barnwell. There can’t be two Dylan Wolfe’s, he thought to himself, as he put away the Electoral Role. He could hear the blood pounding between his ears; the adrenalin rush had started. This has to be the same guy who assaulted Kim Davies. Picking up the piece of paper with his scribbled notes, he took the stairs two at a time up to the CID Office. He poked his head through the door but there was no one in, and so he set off down the corridor to the Stolen Vehicle Squads office, which had been commandeered for the Elizabeth Barnett and Anita Thompson enquiry. Barry Newstead was in there, together with John Vickers. Hunter asked Barry if he could speak with him and they stepped out into the corridor.

Hunter took a deep breath, to steady himself before he spoke. ‘I’ve just taken a call from someone who owes me a favour, Barry.’ Then he relayed his conversation with Jud, without mentioning George Hudson by name, and followed up with the information from his phone call enquiry with the Steward of the Working Men’s Club. He also told him about yesterday’s call to Dearne View and the domestic incident involving Kim Davies.

When Hunter finished, Barry said, ‘Have you done anything with this information yet?’

Hunter shook his head. ‘I’ve come straight up to tell you, Barry.’

‘Good man. It sounds to me as if you might have something here. Have you got anything pressing?’

Hunter told him he hadn’t.

‘Right, get your things together and I’ll meet you downstairs in ten minutes. You and I are going to have a word with this Kim Davies and see what she can tell us about her boyfriend.’
