Goals here, of course, refer to what is intended achievement, operations pertain to steps done to fulfill goals, and plans are about the order by which operations are done. SHERPA's objective is not merely knowing an existing design's possible error but likewise providing guidance to design aspects in the future. The nature of analysis procedure is helpful for solving problems which can lead to many improvements. It overlooks, however, various solutions that can obviate programming.

For the TAFEI, another distinct feature is its adherence to an approach based on schema. There is a clear-cut goal to assess human-machine interaction. It is done by matching the conditions of the machine with the activities of users. TAFEI have three main features: the Transition Matrices or TM, the State-Space Diagrams or SSD, and HTA. TM enables the determination of possible errors as the device and user interact. SSDs help describe the actions of a machine and HTA or the human activity. Basically, TAFEI does it the following way:

Define the system.

Analyze separately the machine conditions and the human actions.

Combine the two analyses to come up with TAFEI's representation of the interaction between machine and user.
