Of course another option ( and the best, in my opinion) would be to remove the cover, take the defective stick out and go to a convenient store such as Best Buy or Fry's and buy a replacement stick.

Rather than go into detail, I will provide a link to a video made by Crucial Memory where they are showing how to add additional memory. The process would be the same for replacing defective memory: Installing Memory Video

TIP!! In the video, when she removes the memory you will see a white clip at the base of each end of the memory stick. To remove the memory, depress these clips and rock the memory back and forth slightly while pulling it. Be sure you are grounded !!!!
