Will automation take my job?
From the trends we are seeing in testing and automation, we can see that automation is taking a more serious role versus manual testing, but positions in tests are still needed. People in these positions are becoming specialized in writing automated test cases and learning automation. However, there are other people (developers) that are comfortable creating code and are starting to get their share of automation writing (shifting left). There will always be the need for people with test expertise, but as with other areas of computer science, renewing, growing, and learning are vital to keeping up with the trends and with the natural development pace of computer science.
In my opinion, what will happen with AI is similar: there will be experts first that are in charge of writing the tools and who could be consulted for expertise, but people in testing jobs will start learning the basics for them to create tools as well and to tailor the testing accordingly. People grow and job descriptions change a little, but the expertise for testing will still be required. Even if development could be taken by AI, tools will still need some degree of quality checks and verifications, even if to make sure that the data provided to the algorithms is correct and ethical.
