2.3.2 Colors

Good design helps make a database easily readable and colors must be allies in creating visuals tables and forms. Colors can be used to distinguish between different rows in a visual table with a cursory glance. Similarly, in forms, you may want to use different colors for certain fields. This helps “discipline” the eye on the screen, makes the database easier to read, and makes it easy to see when data is out of place.

Since we want to use colors as allies in this process of disciplining the eye, I would recommend selecting pastels. It is important to be careful not to abuse the colors and transform the database into a children’s show. This could create confusion and could disrupt your observation of the data. In other words, it is essential to use colors judiciously to help, not hinder, the users’ experience with the database. A light blue background, with white fields, using a dark gray outline seems to be a good choice. If you want to experiment with different colors, be sure to think about the hours that the user will be in front of the screen. For those who do not want to experiment, you now have a very clear suggestion.
