Develop Ethical Decision-makers In-house

Don’t be sad that you cannot hire ethical decision-makers from outside. Good news is that moral judgement is a skill. It can be developed. Thus, you can improve your own moral judgement skills and of others around you.

The skill can be developed by introducing people to moral education and discussing moral issues with people. As people discuss moral dilemmas, they become more aware of how to deal with the situations. This is the first step. The classroom discussions do not necessarily translate into ethical decision-making when it comes to bell the cat.

The next level of grooming decision-makers requires practice. The people whose role holds them responsible for solving ethical dilemmas on a regular basis become better at moral judgements. You can improve the moral judgement skills of people by putting them in democratic leadership positions in the real-life situations where they have to collaborate with other people, understand sensitivities and communicate with groups. The limitation of development is that you can provide such experiences to only a part of the organization.
