Chapter 13
Ethan paced then sat on the edge of the bed then got up again, unable to keep still while waiting for Hunter. Not like he was in a big rush for his man to walk through the door and confront him, but the waiting was killing him. Finally, after he heard Reggie and Drew, leave Hunter opened the door and stepped in. The worst part about that first glimpse of Hunter was that his lover didnât meet his eyes. Hunter looked down at the carpet and then he stepped over to the bed and sat down easily before leaning over his knees.
âSit with me, please.â
The voice was just above a whisper and caught him off guard as he sat, not too close, not too far from Hunter. He had expected screaming, but this was much worse. He decided to try to initiate the conversation. âHunter I know I should have told you-â
âI know why you didnât, and thatâs the hardest thing for me to wrap my mind around.â
Ethan felt numb all over, but a shaking started in his chest that threatened to bloom out to his whole body if he didnât keep it in check. âYou know why? How do you know when Iâm not even sure?â
âYou donât trust me. You never really did.â
âThatâs not-â
Hunter held up his hand to stop the protest. âPlease baby. Ferguson Kenroy was someone you knew and instead of pointing that out when we saw him in Houston, you kept it to yourself because you didnât trust that I would understand that you were with other men before me. You figured if I never met any of them then, maybe I could forget that.â
Well, he had hit it on the head. He expressed what Ethan hadnât been able to figure out all this time. âI guess so.â
Finally, Hunter looked at him and the pain in his eyes made Ethan want to break into a million pieces and blow away on a strong wind. He couldnât believe he had caused the love of his life such pain.
âYou should have trusted that I wouldnât judge you and that I could deal with it. I donât think badly of you for having sex with other men. Iâd be a hypocrite if I did. We both have pasts but mine didnât come halfway across the country to the same sex club we are members of. If you knew he was the screwy fuck he was, you should have told me because he could have been a threat to both of us. Then you go off on your own and confront him so Reggie could steal his sub? If he wasnât an enemy before, he sure is now.â
âIâm sorry. I know youâre angry with me. I know what a screw up I can be, and I wouldnât blame you if you stopped loving me.â
Hunter chuckled sardonically and shook his head. âYou just donât get it! I love you no matter what! Iâm a man that once I finally make a commitment, it takes a hell of a lot to get me to break it.
