Saturday rolls around and with it the parade to end all parades. Glenbrick Cove, the small town we're staying in, might be low in population, but they're huge in spirit. They've gone all out to decorate Main Street from end to end. Streamers hang from light pole to light pole and wreaths cover every door. Each shop has emblems affixed to windows and treats waiting for the children to grab.

"People come from all the neighboring towns to celebrate with us," Lindsey tells me as we settle into our front row seats on the side of the road about halfway down the parade route. "They'll even have a few floats since Glenbrick doesn't really have enough people to put all this together. It's a community effort."

I nod to her absently as I sip the hot chocolate she brought me. Mom pulls my friend into a discussion about the specifics of the human holiday as I people watch. The crowd is a blend of all types of people, some with magic and others not. As part of my returned powers, I can now see auras around an individual. It's helpful since I can tell their intent before they ever speak a word. It's also annoying at times because I've had to work to shut it off when I don't want to be bombarded with all the colors.

"Oh, yay! It's about to begin," Lindsey cheers a half hour later. Apparently, arriving early to these things is a necessity if you want a good spot, hence why we've been sitting for so long.

The parade begins simple enough. There's a car with a girl dressed in a green gown waving to people. She wears a sash that says Miss Glenbrick. I know from Lindsey's whispered words that she's the winner of the local pageant. I wave back to her, then watch for the next thing.

A high school band, a dance team, and three more cars of waving individuals pass before I see the actual floats. I watch from a distance as candy flies out onto the crowd. Kids rush to pick up fallen pieces as parents cheer for more to be thrown. I see cups and hats and even blankets being tossed out.

When I give my friend a raised brow to question it, she shrugs. "Candy is what lures the kids. It's the other stuff that gets parents and adults here. Why else would we freeze our butts off in the cold?"

I push my hands deeper into my pockets at her words. Not only did she bring me a set of new gloves, but she also showed up with hand warmers — an amazing little human treat. The packets create a warmth in my coat that wasn't there before. It's even beneficial to the pups as well since they've seemed to have calmed at the additional warmth. I'll have to remember this trick when they're being rowdy in the middle of the night. Maybe the babies are just cold.

As the parade progresses, my body begs for me to move.
