CHAPTER 25: Maggie

––––––––

Maggie lay on the Saint Andrew’s Cross trying to barely breath as the seconds ticked by. The yoga and Pilates classes she’d taken were helping her to focus and hold steady. The three cherries weren’t even wiggling. She glanced at Terry. He was dealing with this better than expected. He didn’t like it when his games went off script.

“My nose is very itchy.” He scratched the side of his nose.

Her eyes narrowed. Here was the Terry she knew—hyper-competitive.

“Boy, time is sure going slowly.” He faked a yawn.

“You are such an ass.” A yawn built in her throat, threatening to make her inhale deeply. “I am not going to yawn. I don’t need to yawn,” she mumbled to herself.

“What’s that?” He leaned toward her. “Speak up. Your lips are moving but I can’t hear you.”

“You don’t need to hear me,” she said through clenched teeth. This man was so annoying.

“Now Maggie, you know I always want to hear what you have to say.” His dark eyes sparkled with humor.

“You have to be kidding? Half the time, you barely listen to me when I’m talking.” The man was just like all the others when it came to that. She’d come home from work and tell him about her day and get nothing but grunts.

“That’s your fault.”

“How is that my...” She held her breath as the cherry on her pubic mound started to roll.

“Go on? What were you saying?” His dark gaze heated as he stared at the disobedient fruit.

The cherry settled. She couldn’t let him make her lose focus. She clamped her mouth shut. She was done talking.

“I could make you answer, rabbit.” His eyes met hers.

She shook her head slightly.

“You don’t think I can?”

“How much time is left?” It’d seemed like at least an hour since he’d set the alarm.

Terry glanced at the phone. “A little under two minutes.”

“No way. Let me see it.”

“Your distrust wounds me deeply.” He smirked as he held the phone where she could see it without moving. “You know, it beeps when the time is up.”

She sent him a dirty look but refused to argue with the ass. She was going to beat him at his own game. Her lips curved in a half smile.

“Since you’re talking again, what were you saying before?”

She wasn’t answering that and she couldn’t shrug so she lifted her brows as if to say, “Don’t know.”

“Can’t remember?”

She shook her head slightly.

“Let me refresh your memory.” He wandered to the bottom of the cross. “I said that it was your fault that I don’t listen when you talk. You were about to politely ask me to explain even though you have absolutely no doubt that I’m right because I always am. Does that about sum it up?”

His handsome smirk set her blood on fire with both annoyance and because she knew him well enough to know he was down at the end of the cross for a reason. It was written all over his smug face.

“Well rabbit, it’s your fault because whenever I’m around you I can’t focus on anything but how much I want to touch you.
