Disarming Destruction

Chapter 9

“Destruction as Jesus teaches in the Bible, even physical death, is a doorway into a greater existence.”

Don Keathley

W e have been taught by the church that the word destruction that is found in the New Testament, has the same old connotation that we know about with Hell. We interpreted the word destruction to mean another word for eternal conscious torment and destroyed forever, irreversible, and lasting for all of eternity.

The Greek word for destruction is the word Apollumi, and when we sit down and begin to compare Scripture with Scripture, you will see that not even death and destruction will stop the promises of God. He will not be defeated because of terms like death or destruction , He has a promise, and He has a plan, which is for the restoration of everything. The word destruction , which is used in the Kingdom of God is not a negative word; it’s a word used to mean something positive. In our old mindset in the way we understood what destruction means, we still believed that the promises of God are not going to be thwarted. I will give you some Scripture references that will provide you with an understanding of what God means by using the word destruction .

In Acts 3:21, this Scripture is referring to Jesus, and we read, “Whom Heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.”

The word restoration is tied to the word destruction because often at times in order to restore, you first have to destroy and bring down what you want to rebuild. In the first five books of the Bible, known as the Pentateuch, which are; Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, everything that Moses mentioned, and all the way through the entire Scriptures, everything they talked about will be restored. God is saying that it was perfect in the beginning, and it will be in the end.

Everything, in the beginning, was very good, and because God knows the end from the beginning, everything at the end will be as it was in the beginning. That almost sounds like a Dr. Seuss riddle! However, it’s not a riddle, it’s the truth, and it makes no difference which way people choose to view it through religious eyes. There is nothing that will stop God; nothing.

Not death , nor destruction can ever stop God from restoring everything back exactly how He originally intended it to be, and all done through His unconditional love. We read in 2 Corinthians 5:19 (emphasis added) that God was in Christ reconciling the world, which is the entire cosmos to Himself. It reads, “That God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them, and He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.”

I will show you through a few Scriptures how the word destruction is used positively to restore everything to Christ, which is
