CHAPTER NINE

I've "gone away for the weekend" again but not really. I had hidden the dirt bike not far from my parents’ house and left my Jeep in their driveway. I know I'm a little twisted and slightly evil, but I added a little bit of a sleep aid to everybody's drinks at the end of the night. My brother and my parents are out cold, each of them in their bed, unaware of what I'm up to. Carefully I move from room to room, setting up small remote motion sensors in each of their doorways. Mom and Dad’s, I set up two, one on each side of the bed.

I throw a few last-minute items in my small backpack and start to make my way through my parents’ house to escape. Carefully I follow the small trail I cut through the woods to where I have the bike stashed. It takes me several moments to pull the bike free of the blueberry bush I had stashed it in. Once free, I fire it up and do a quick system check. When I am sure the bike is ready for the trip, I rip through the woods keeping to the shadows and off the main roads. I'm a woman on a mission, and by the pings that I'm hearing from my phone, I know that Carmelo is now creeping through the house with his girlfriend. Or should I say: my brother's girlfriend?

Three county lines and several train tracks later, I'm within striking distance of my house. Mentally I go over my checklist to keep myself on task as I fly through the woods to my final destination. It was so nice of my parents to uproot and move closer to where we had wanted to go to college. It makes it so much easier for me to pull off what I need to do now.

I hide the Enduro behind a clump of sticker bushes out of line of sight from the house. There's a big storm brewing, which makes my next stunt easy to pull off. Sometime around 10:30 p.m., the storm starts, and I watch lightning strike a nearby tree. The branch falls and takes out the power lines just outside of my neighbor's house. I guess I don't have to kill the power in the house, since Mother Nature did it for me.

I go to the basement window that I purposely left unlocked and slide my way into the house. Downstairs I have all of my latex masks and other assorted roleplay materials. I made a mask just for this particular night. Slowly I start gluing on the accouterments, making myself take on a demonic appearance.

I've practiced this application numerous times, and it takes me less than twenty minutes to get all the pieces in place. My hands I cover in liquid latex and wait for it to dry, hiding my fingerprints. I slip a skull cap on and glue it in place with the appliance glue, making sure that not a single fiber of my DNA evidence will be left behind.
