As soon as I’d begun singing, their eyes had gone wide, and then broad smiles had creased their faces as well as my father’s and Liam’s. By the time I started the chorus, they had all joined in.

And it's No, Nay, never,

No, nay never no more

Will I play the wild rover,

No never no more

By the time we’d sung the four verses I knew, and an extra couple of choruses, several neighbors had joined us. As we finished with a final, drawn out No never no more, a score of us were laughing and clapping each other’s back. I met my father’s eyes. He was smiling broadly, nodding his approval. His grin was too big to be normal. My harp was indeed magic.

Once started, however, I could not leave without a few more songs. Half the neighborhood must have come over and, by the time we finished Whiskey in the Jar, Balor and I were the only ones without at least one arm draped around another’s shoulder. Liam stood between Colin and Donal, nearly crushing them to his sides.

Even if I hadn’t made up my mind, I knew I could not willingly give up my harp and whatever magic it afforded me. I had given my birth family a gift, something to remember me by, but Balor and Àibell were my true family. I still felt anger I’d been stolen but knowing my birth family was happy gave me some closure.
