Chapter 21

Jai sulked in his seat while Yazmin drove around the huge complex looking for her son’s apartment building. Although she had been there a couple of times before she still managed to get lost every time she visited. Yazmin knew Jai had an attitude, but she was not in the mood to deal with it today. If she didn’t know better, she would think Jai was jealous of her kids. Every time she brought them something, he would complain about her spoiling grown men. Yazmin’s kids were her pride and joy. If they were doing what they were supposed to, she would help them out along the way. Yazmin worked hard for her money and would spend it any way she wanted to, regardless of what anybody had to say. She let out a frustrated sigh before turning to Jai and asking him to open the glove box and hand her the slip of paper that had her son’s address on it, “We will probably find it faster if we put it in the GPS,” she snapped. When Jai didn’t move to retrieve the paper, she angrily reached over him grabbed it herself. “How long are we going to be here?” Jai mumbled. Yazmin ignored him as she typed in the address on her GPS and threw the paper back in the glove box. He could sit his ass in the car for all she cared, she didn’t ask him to come in the first place. At first Yazmin relished in how much time Jai wanted to spend with her. Now the constant pop ups at her job and boutique and wanting to go everywhere she went was becoming annoying. Yazmin liked her own space from time to time and Jai was starting to smother her. She pulled her car into a parking spot and hopped out to grab the groceries she was dropping off to her son. “What type of mother buys her grown ass sons groceries?” Jai muttered. “A good one,” she said, as she grabbed the bags from the car. “I wonder how cocky you would be without that little job,” Jai muttered. He didn’t think Yazmin heard him, but she had heard him, loud and clear. She decided she would address it later. Yazmin’s son ran out the apartment to help his mother when he saw her struggling to carry all the bags. “Ma, why you didn’t call me to come out and help you?” he fussed, as he took the bags from her. Yazmin’s son shook his head, as he looked over at Jai leaning against the car typing away on his phone. There was something about Jai her son didn’t trust, and he would keep his guard up around him until he figured it out. Yazmin grabbed her son’s mail out the mailbox along the wall, as she walked by. “When are they coming to fix the lock on your mailbox?” she asked, while flipping through his mail. Yazmin slipped his light bill in her purse, making a mental note to pay it the next day.
