Chapter 7

On this occasion, Jo had arrived ahead of Belinda at the Costa coffee house.

‘Wow, twice in two weeks,’ Jo exclaimed.

Belinda just smiled.

‘So, to what do I owe the honour for this?’

Belinda realised she didn’t really know where to start.

‘Has something happened?’ asked Jo.

Belinda took a deep breath and told her friend everything. Jo sat open-mouthed as Belinda spoke.

‘Anything? Anything he asks?’ Jo said incredulously when her friend had finished.

Belinda nodded.

‘And Mark is ok with that? I mean, you doing whatever Craig asks?’

‘I would have to say he’s actually excited about it.’

‘And you’re happy to do girls? Even though you turned Karen down?’

Belinda sighed. ‘That was a mistake. She caught me by surprise and when I said no, she simply walked away. I mean, if she’d asked again, I would have said yes.’

To her surprise, Jo covered her face with her hands.

‘What is it, Jo?’

‘You really don’t know. Karen and I were lovers for ages, but all she talked about was bringing you into the relationship. She had a dream of the three of us living together – as lovers.’

‘The three of us? I had no idea.’

‘Well, now you know.’

‘Oh my god. You and Karen? And then me as well?’

‘Yeah, I know. Crazy, isn’t it?’

‘But then you got married.’

‘I was very unhappy after Karen left, and I guess it was on the rebound, really.’

‘But then, Mike?’

‘It wasn’t Mike. That’s just what I told Eric. It was actually a girl called Michelle.’

‘My god, Jo. So much to take in!’

They both laughed.

Belinda sat back and pursed her lips.

‘So, are you saying it could have sometimes been you and me, then?’

‘Not just sometimes. I fantasised about having you the way the doc nearly had you, bending over an examination table with me with taking you from behind with my strap on.’

‘Oh my god, Jo, I had no idea! Um, did Michelle like it like that?’

‘Her previous girlfriend introduced her to it. She loved it! Mind you, she preferred it face to face.’

‘I thought, well you know, that lesbians mainly fingered each other.’

Jo laughed. ‘Yeah, we did that too. Not as nice as being licked out though.’

‘I thought that was only in porn movies.’

‘Oh, so you’ve seen a few, huh?’

‘Long time ago, when I was first going out with Mark.’

‘Golly, that was a long time ago.’ She tilted her head, and looked at her friend quizzically.

‘So you don’t really know much about what happens between two women?’

Belinda shook her head.

‘Well, there’s a lot of kissing and touching, getting each other warmed up.’

‘I’d like that.’

‘Does that mean it always been wham bang, thank you ma’am?’

‘Pretty much.’

‘Well, you must let me show you sometime. It’s better than sex with a guy, I promise.’

Belinda sat back, seemingly contemplating the scene outside the café window.

‘Oh Lin, have I upset you?’

Belinda turned back to her and laughed.

‘No, no, it’s just, I don’t know, missed opportunities, I guess. I mean, I was thinking what would have happened if you, me and Karen had all lived together. Don’t you think one
