Tasks are not functions. They can be switched easily as there is no need to recreate a stack frames as is needed to be carried out for functions. How the scheduler decides on the task to pick up is dependent on the architecture of the Julia runtime. For example, a scheduler with the availability of multiple thread execution may be able to pick up multiple tasks for execution. Similarly, the condition is another system-dependent entity. For example, the condition can be a file being locked, a device being busy or a channel being full or empty.
