Chapter 9.
When I arrive home Jessie is already waiting for me, sitting on the couch with two cold six-packs of Jimmieâs Radical Ale. He opens one for each of us.
âHere you go bro!â
Taking the beer, I sit in a chair across from him.
âLook, I donât know how to say this. I think youâre right, maybe this YouSource can help people.â
Todayâs events have become Jessieâs rock bottom moment. While children are orphaned, Iâm thankful Jessie wasnât hurt. He goes on to tell me after the police left his company brought in grief counselors. He says he sat in a circle with his co-works, nearly every one told how their job was sucking the life out them and they felt unhappy. The company says it will establish support groups to help their employees.
If people feel they donât have enough time for their work, how will they find time to see counselors? My company was unsuccessful with Alcoholics Anonymous. His companyâs action is nothing but window dressing. A dog and pony show for the press and Wall Street investors.
âCody, I looked at your website. No offense, buddy, but if youâre going to do this, you need to do it right. I can help. IâM IN! I have a few ideas to step this up a notch. We have a lot of work to do.â
First, I email my work to the sourcers. I have enough work to keep them busy for a couple of days. The extra time will work out well, because this is going to take a couple of nights to get the site redesigned. This will be a piece of cake for Jessie. Before being sucked in to the allure and money of being a stockbroker, Jessie wanted to develop and produce video games. Heâs a computer genius. With my limited computer skill set, I was only able to do so much with the original site. Heâll be able to improve the basic YouSource webpage with sensei-esque speed and accuracy. We decide it should be patterned after dating websites, eliminating the need for the Craigslist type job post. The person seeking a sourcer completes an application and agrees to the rules. The sourcee does the same, and we match them according to skills and job type.
This might be more than I anticipated. What if we get caught? What if someone turns us in? I donât know if I can handle this pressure. Lives and careers of others are now in the hands of my big idea. Perhaps this is noble effort. Although to me, the stress is building up again. My idea to relieve stress has now created more. This time I am able to handle the burden.
Monday night passes.
Then Tuesday night comes and goes.
Wednesday night arrives. Three nights is how long it takes us to re-launch the site. Each night, I distance myself from my pale demon.
Jessie finally completes the work on the redesigned website at around three oâclock in the morning. Since we have had a long week and been up all night, we figure tomorrow will be a rough day at work.
