The headmistress looked down at the floor and sighed. "It was a dreadful experience, Miss Frigidus," she breathed as she opened a new bottle of vodka. "I have never been so humiliated in all my life. Well, apart from the time I was caught on the factory floor with... The less said about that, the better. I was subjected to a body search. They put their fingers up... Well, they didn't actually. I did suggest it to a good looking young policeman, but he declined."

"Oh, dear, you poor woman. Fancy being taken away by the police."

"I don't fancy it at all. Christ, this vodka's strong."

"Oh, by the way, there was a meeting yesterday, Miss Gussetpiece. There was talk of you being unfit for the post of headmistress," Miss Frigidus enlightened the portly woman.

"Mutiny! Who said that? Who said that I was unfit?"

"Er... Well, I'd rather not say. I don't want to fall out with anyone."

"Tell me, Miss Frigidus - or I'll have you flogged!"

"Flogged?"

"Horsewhipped!"

"Oh, my goodness. Well, in that case - it was Madame Fissure. She said that you're an alcoholic."

"The sheer cheek of it. How can she possibly say that? I've only had half a bottle of vodka today, and it's already past ten o'clock. I'll have her suspended by her French suspender belt for that. Dig some dirt up, Miss Frigidus. Find out all you can about the French cow!"

"Goodness me. You're not going to do anything rash, are you, Headmistress?"

"Rash? I'll throttle her! What else went on during my absence?" the Head demanded, gulping down the vodka.

"Well, Hilda Hillock's gone missing again, and that new French girl was caught climbing through the dormitory window last night."

"Strewth! Hilda Hillock will be the death of me, she really will! What on earth was the French girl doing climbing through a window?"

"I really don't know, Headmistress. She..."

"Where was everyone last night? I couldn't find Miss Blob, Fräulein Vulvahausen, Madame Fissure - or you, for that matter. The place was deserted. I looked everywhere. Almost everywhere, anyway. I was feeling rather dizzy from... Where was everyone?"

"Er... Well, we all went to bed early, more than likely."

"More than likely? Either you did or you didn't."

"Well, I did, but I can't speak for the other members of staff. Perhaps they were planning the mutiny?"

"I'll give them mutiny! You say that Hilda's missing again? When was she last seen?"

"She didn't sleep in her bed last night and she hasn't been seen today."

"Jesus, I need another drink! And what's all this about Véronique climbing through windows? I can't have this sort of thing going on, I really can't!"

"The maintenance man caught her climbing in through the window. She was half- naked, so he said."

"Half-naked? Goodness me, I can't turn my back for five minutes without the place going to rack and ruin. Ah, Miss Shaftgrinder!" the headmistress greeted the beady owl as she entered her study. "Did you attend this mutinous meeting during my untimely absence yesterday?"

"Good morning, Headmistress. Yes, I did attend the so-called meeting - and I walked out.
