Chapter Eighteen

I woke with a start and sat up in bed. Oh crap. Sore. That man knew how to make me remember him in the most intimate ways. Closing my eyes, I breathed it out, becoming used to the dull ache, actually shivering from the memories of just a few hours ago. Upon reopening my eyes, I glanced around the bedroom, now bathed in sunlight not only from the beautiful arched window to my right, but it was well illuminated with sunlight back-lighting the smoky panels of the glass walls. Breathtaking. Off to the left was the set of double doors that I knew led into a magnificent walk-in closet, but also the bathroom, of which, I truly needed at this moment.

I glanced over to where Ryan was supposed to be, already knowing I was alone in the bed. Since I didn’t hear any noise, like the shower running or banging around in the kitchen, I figured he was maybe quietly reading his morning paper out on that deck. I wanted to get out there, too, with a steaming cup of the hot coffee I could smell in the air.

I swung out of the bed and jogged to the bathroom. After I was done, I dressed in a solid black T-shirt I found hanging in the closet. It was far too big which was great because it covered everything that needed covering. It wasn’t like I would wear it out of the condo or anything. I just wanted something light and easy right now. Plus, I figured Ryan would think it was sexy since I didn’t put on any underwear. Then I headed into the kitchen following the scent of coffee. It was a cute kitchen, just the right size. Very functional. Very urban, just like the rest of Ryan’s apartment. I rummaged around for a cup and grabbed the pot of coffee to fill it. That’s when I saw the note.

“I didn’t have much for breakfast food so I am going to the store to get some. I don’t know what you like, so I will get a little of everything and we can decide when I get back. PS. Don’t worry about your mom. I sent my best protector over with food and the instructions to take her wherever she wanted to go and not to leave her side. She is safe and taken care of.”

I laughed when I saw two ‘X’s and two ‘O’s. Kisses and hugs? On paper? The guy was too cute. But to remember about my mom? That was flat-out unfair. How was I going to not fall madly in love with this guy?

I took a sip of the scalding hot liquid and was just headed out to the deck when I heard the key in the lock. He was back already! I set my cup down on the kitchen island and ran to the door to help with bags. But it wasn’t Ryan who was on the other side of the door when it opened.
