Iâm sure of it!â
âHey! Is that a cup of Hot Fudge Vita-Tea?â said a voice, and a man appeared. He was tall and wore large black spectacles, which looked like an adult version of Pipâs G-Glasses.
âIs that him?â said Rahul, and Pip nodded.
âDonât worry,â said Pip 2âs voice with a chuckle. âI did one for you too!â
A cup appeared from behind the screen again. Ivan reached for it and took a long drink. While he was doing this, another white chair floated into shot behind him. He sat down in it, still holding the cup.
âThat was delicious, Pip, thank you. Do you know what? I was just saying to your mother how nice youâve been over the last few days!â
âYes,â said Nina. âI thought recently that something was wrong with you. Like that day when I had so much trouble getting you out of bed!â
âYouâre right,â said Pip 2. âI wasnât feeling quite myself.â
âWell,â said Ivan, âin that case, I think youâre right back to being you, darling. Lovely, helpful, friendly, best-part-of-the-family Pip!â
And then Pipâs dadâs face came right up to the screen, lips pursed.
âURRRGHH!â said Dag.
âHe does that to me a lot,â said Squeezy-Paws. âIâve told him I donât like it.â
Pip stared at the screen silently.
âPip?â said Rahul. âAre you okay?â
She didnât say anything, but shook her head and dropped her gaze.
Rahul gently shut the laptop screen.
âDonât be upset, Pip. Itâs not their fault,â he said.
Pip nodded. âI know. But it still feels really weird.â
âUm,â said Rahul, âwhere do they think your RoboClone has gone? If they think the real RoboClone is Pip?â
âThey probably havenât even noticed that Pip 2âs missing. My mum and dad spend most of their time thinking about work, to be honest.â
âAnd what about us?â said Dag. âMe and Squeezy-Paws. They didnât even mention us! Especially me! Iâve been gone for days.â
âYes,â said Squeezy-Paws. âBut they must notice weâve gone soon.â
âWill they?â said Dag.
âWell, definitely,â said Squeezy-Paws. Then she paused. âWonât they?â
Dagâs face fell. âThey donât care about us.â
Squeezy-Paws looked horrified. âYOUâRE RIGHT! THEY DONâT CARE ABOUT US! THEY DONâT CARE!â
âCalm down, cat. Sanjay and Prisha will hear!â
âWho?â
âRahulâs mum and dad. Who own this warehouse!â
âAT LEAST THAT WOULD BE A MUM AND DAD NOTICING US!â she yowled again.
Rahul looked at Pip, who was still very quiet and sad. He thought for a minute and then said:
âTomorrowâs a new day, Pip. And I know whatâll cheer you up!â
