I’m sure of it!’

‘Hey! Is that a cup of Hot Fudge Vita-Tea?’ said a voice, and a man appeared. He was tall and wore large black spectacles, which looked like an adult version of Pip’s G-Glasses.

‘Is that him?’ said Rahul, and Pip nodded.

‘Don’t worry,’ said Pip 2’s voice with a chuckle. ‘I did one for you too!’

A cup appeared from behind the screen again. Ivan reached for it and took a long drink. While he was doing this, another white chair floated into shot behind him. He sat down in it, still holding the cup.

‘That was delicious, Pip, thank you. Do you know what? I was just saying to your mother how nice you’ve been over the last few days!’

‘Yes,’ said Nina. ‘I thought recently that something was wrong with you. Like that day when I had so much trouble getting you out of bed!’

‘You’re right,’ said Pip 2. ‘I wasn’t feeling quite myself.’

‘Well,’ said Ivan, ‘in that case, I think you’re right back to being you, darling. Lovely, helpful, friendly, best-part-of-the-family Pip!’

And then Pip’s dad’s face came right up to the screen, lips pursed.

‘URRRGHH!’ said Dag.

‘He does that to me a lot,’ said Squeezy-Paws. ‘I’ve told him I don’t like it.’

Pip stared at the screen silently.

‘Pip?’ said Rahul. ‘Are you okay?’

She didn’t say anything, but shook her head and dropped her gaze.

Rahul gently shut the laptop screen.

‘Don’t be upset, Pip. It’s not their fault,’ he said.

Pip nodded. ‘I know. But it still feels really weird.’

‘Um,’ said Rahul, ‘where do they think your RoboClone has gone? If they think the real RoboClone is Pip?’

‘They probably haven’t even noticed that Pip 2’s missing. My mum and dad spend most of their time thinking about work, to be honest.’

‘And what about us?’ said Dag. ‘Me and Squeezy-Paws. They didn’t even mention us! Especially me! I’ve been gone for days.’

‘Yes,’ said Squeezy-Paws. ‘But they must notice we’ve gone soon.’

‘Will they?’ said Dag.

‘Well, definitely,’ said Squeezy-Paws. Then she paused. ‘Won’t they?’

Dag’s face fell. ‘They don’t care about us.’

Squeezy-Paws looked horrified. ‘YOU’RE RIGHT! THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT US! THEY DON’T CARE!’

‘Calm down, cat. Sanjay and Prisha will hear!’

‘Who?’

‘Rahul’s mum and dad. Who own this warehouse!’

‘AT LEAST THAT WOULD BE A MUM AND DAD NOTICING US!’ she yowled again.

Rahul looked at Pip, who was still very quiet and sad. He thought for a minute and then said:

‘Tomorrow’s a new day, Pip. And I know what’ll cheer you up!’
